Do doctors typically write down what they say during appointments?

My oncologist sits at his computer typing things down while I am talking to him at times. 👍. Then sometimes, he just sits and listens. I’ve already seen his nurse at that time and she’s sitting at the computer asking me questions and writing things down.

Once, I had an adverse reaction to the chemo that I was taking. The following week, I planted my tail end in oncologist’s office so I could talk to someone about it.

It turned out that oncologist walked out in the waiting room and saw me. He asked me what was going on. I explained the situation to him and then I asked him if I still needed to talk to his nurse about it. He said definitely. He told me to tell the nurse everything that I had just told him. The nurse came out, listened to everything I told her about it and wrote it all down as well. That way my oncologist had the written information to refer to as well.

Note: Usually the first reaction to chemo is minor. Just some discomfort or tingling feelings, or pressure in some way. Don’t think that the exact same thing will happen the next time. The second reaction could easily be more intense and worse ☹️ and need a nurse’s intervention. So don’t shrug it off if it happens. 👍 Once I had a reaction and it was minor. I didn’t intend to say anything to my doctor about it. I thought I would wait and see what happened next. (Human beings can be very stupid creatures. 🙄) I did talk to 2 different pharmacists about it and I told them that I had no intentions of mentioning it to the doctor. Both of them said….”Please tell my oncologist everything before the next chemo.” I listened. I’m glad I did because the second reaction was worse, but the nurses were prepared and acted quickly.
